Starring:
Alexander Fu Sheng as Na Cha
Lo Dik as ??
Luk Kim Ming as ??
Kong Do as Ao-guang
Fung Hak On as The Third Prince

Synopsis: This is a very well known Chinese legend about the deity Na Cha, the champion of all the common people.

The story begins with Na Cha, playing tricks on his school teacher so that he can sneak out. At first he did not realize that the people are being oppressed by the officials of a corrupt king. After he realizes this, he begins to act impulsively and accidently kills two evil gods. One is the notorious Third Prince, who can transform himself into a dragon and the other one is a giant.

Upon hearing about the death of his son, the Third Prince, Ao-Guang, the ruler of the underworld threatens to unleash massive flooding upon the city unless Na Cha is killed. Giving in to save the people, Na Cha gives his life up. After he was sacrificed, he was bought back to life by a “sun seen” or a living god found in many Chinese legends.

Storyline — I felt the plot was a bit weak due to (perhaps) director Chang Cheh’s lack of knowledge of the Na Cha story. Also it was hard to fit a story like Na Cha into a 90-minute film.

Characters - Alexander Fu Sheng played Na Cha quite well. His portrayal of Na Cha is more of the fun-loving action hero instead of the serious one. I felt his portrayal was much better than Benny Chan’s portrayal.

Fung Hak On as the Third Prince was quite good. Fung was known to play the villain in the 70s in most, if not all, of the Shaw Brothers movies he was in. His character as the perverted Third Prince was convincing.

Notes of interest
* This is Alexander Fu Sheng's first starring role in a movie with many more to come.
*Look for Eric Tsang Chi Wai in a brief appearance with a one liner.
*The Flaming Spear that Na Cha uses is cool.
*Same with the spinning wheels attached to his foot.
Overall, the movie survives due to Alexander Fu Sheng's on screen charisma. I don't think any actor at that time could have made this film any better.

Nice review samtheseed. I really liked this movie. I haven't seen it in years but I remember it well. I've always been a fan of Alexander Fu Sheng. I really liked him in Chinatown Kid, (not the Celestial version, which is badly cut) it's always been a favorite of mine.
